Roma Monitor Darryl Bakola as Sassuolo Rule Out January Sale
AS Roma are keeping a close eye on Sassuolo midfielder Darryl Bakola, but the Serie A club have no intention of letting the young Frenchman leave during the January transfer window, according to Tuttomercato.
Bakola joined Sassuolo from Marseille in February for a reported fee of around €10 million. Since arriving in Italy, the midfielder has made progress and featured eight times this season, including six appearances in Serie A and two in the Coppa Italia.
His performances have reportedly helped double his valuation, attracting attention from Roma as they assess potential reinforcements for the future.
Sassuolo Plan to Keep Bakola
Despite Roma’s interest, Sassuolo are determined to retain the midfielder beyond the winter transfer window. Sporting director Palmieri reportedly wants Bakola to remain at the club until at least next season as part of a wider strategy focused on developing young players.
The Italian side are prioritising long-term planning over a quick sale, believing that continued development could benefit both the player and the club.
Bakola’s growing role in the squad has strengthened Sassuolo’s resolve to keep him, meaning Roma may have to wait if they want to pursue a deal.
Roma Face a Wait for French Midfielder
Roma’s reported interest highlights their attention to emerging talent in Italian football. However, with Sassuolo unwilling to negotiate a January departure, an immediate transfer appears unlikely.
For now, Bakola is expected to remain in Sassuolo’s plans as he continues adapting to Italian football and gaining valuable first-team experience. Whether Roma return with a formal approach in a future window remains to be seen.
