Juventus Face Michele Di Gregorio Dilemma as Bournemouth Loan Exit Looks Unlikely
Michele Di Gregorio’s future at Bournemouth is becoming increasingly uncertain, with the Premier League club reportedly unlikely to activate their purchase option and a potential return to Serie A emerging as an alternative.
The Italian goalkeeper moved to England after a difficult spell at Juventus, hoping to rebuild his confidence away from the criticism he faced in Turin. However, regular playing time has proved difficult to find, raising doubts over whether Bournemouth will make his move permanent.
According to Tuttosport, the purchase option included in the agreement with Juventus is becoming increasingly unlikely to be activated. A permanent transfer would bring the Bianconeri just under €13 million, but Di Gregorio’s limited involvement has put that prospect in doubt.
Bournemouth continue to trust Petrovic
Di Gregorio’s lack of opportunities is largely linked to Bournemouth’s existing goalkeeping hierarchy. Serbian goalkeeper Djordje Petrovic, who joined the club permanently, arrived after an impressive season and had already earned the confidence of head coach Marco Rose.
The signing of Di Gregorio, overseen by sporting director Tiago Pinto, was intended to strengthen the club’s goalkeeping options rather than fundamentally change the established pecking order.
Even so, the Italian might reasonably have expected more opportunities given Bournemouth’s commitments across several competitions. Instead, his involvement has been extremely limited.
The former Monza goalkeeper has made just one appearance so far, starting the 4-0 Carabao Cup victory over Lincoln City on September 8. He has yet to feature in either the Premier League or the Europa League.
Despite his lack of minutes, Di Gregorio has maintained a positive public attitude, recently praising the team’s performances and insisting that the squad would continue working hard towards its objectives.
Could a return to Serie A be the answer?
With a permanent stay in England looking increasingly difficult, a return to Italian football could offer Di Gregorio a route back to regular first-team action.
Juventus will also need to consider their options if Bournemouth decide against triggering the purchase clause. Recovering close to €13 million would be a financial boost for the Turin club, but finding a suitable buyer could prove challenging if the goalkeeper remains on the sidelines.
According to Tuttosport, Serie A could provide an alternative, with Bologna emerging as a potential destination in the report’s discussion of the situation. However, no completed deal or formal agreement has been established.
For Di Gregorio, the priority will be finding a club where he can play consistently and rebuild his reputation. His Bournemouth experience has not developed as hoped, and the coming months could prove decisive in determining whether his future lies in England or back in Italy.
