David Silva comes out of retirement to join Supreme Sha Tin

David Silva has officially returned to professional football after three years in retirement, with the former Manchester City and Spain midfielder joining Hong Kong Premier League club Supreme Sha Tin.

The 40-year-old announced his return on Wednesday after the Hong Kong side confirmed the signing on their social media channels.

Silva retired in 2023 after suffering a serious knee injury during pre-season with Real Sociedad. He now becomes one of the biggest names to join Hong Kong football in recent years.

The former Spain international spent 10 seasons at Manchester City between 2010 and 2020, winning four Premier League titles and 11 major trophies during his time at the club. He also won the 2010 World Cup and two European Championships with Spain.

Silva said he was excited about the new experience and looking forward to discovering Hong Kong, its culture and its football.

Supreme Sha Tin said Silva will initially settle in with the squad and work towards full match fitness before making his debut.

The move marks a surprise new chapter in Silva’s career, three years after he appeared to have called time on his playing days.
