Ajax Open Talks to Sign Wolves Striker Tolu Arokodare Permanently
Ajax have reportedly opened negotiations with Wolverhampton Wanderers to sign Tolu Arokodare on a permanent basis after the Nigerian striker made an impressive start to life in Amsterdam. According to Africa Foot, the Dutch club are working behind the scenes to turn his season-long loan into a permanent transfer.
Arokodare, 25, joined Ajax towards the end of July after struggling to establish himself at Wolves. His performances in the Eredivisie have since strengthened the case for the Dutch side to keep him beyond the current campaign.
Arokodare Revives His Form at Ajax
The Nigeria international has made a significant impact since arriving in the Netherlands, scoring nine goals and providing three assists in 14 appearances across all competitions, according to the supplied statistics.
His numbers represent a major improvement on his 2025-26 campaign with Wolves, when he recorded six goals and two assists in 38 appearances. At Ajax, he has produced 12 goal contributions in just 676 minutes, underlining his effectiveness in front of goal.
Arokodare had attracted Wolves’ attention after impressing for KRC Genk, prompting the English club to sign him in September 2025. However, he struggled to reproduce that form in the Premier League and subsequently fell out of favour following Wolves’ relegation and the arrival of manager César Peixoto.
The striker’s difficult spell also included a reported clash with Peixoto during pre-season training, before his loan move to Ajax offered him a fresh start.
Ajax Begin Negotiations With Wolves
According to Africa Foot, Ajax have started talks with Wolves over a permanent transfer, with sources close to the player informing the outlet that discussions are ongoing.
The Dutch club are reportedly prepared to pay up to €25 million but do not intend to exceed that figure. Wolves, meanwhile, are said to be open to selling Arokodare permanently, although their asking price is higher than Ajax’s current valuation.
The terms of the existing loan include a purchase option, but the exact fee required to activate it has not been confirmed. If Ajax’s reported €25 million limit falls below that clause, the two clubs may need to negotiate a compromise to complete the deal.
Arokodare Open to Staying in Amsterdam
Arokodare has previously spoken positively about his experience at Ajax, praising the club, his teammates and the welcome he has received in the Netherlands.
His camp is reportedly not opposed to a permanent transfer, giving Ajax encouragement as they explore the possibility of keeping the forward.
With the player performing well and Ajax keen to retain him, negotiations could progress if the Dutch side and Wolves find common ground on the fee. For now, however, a permanent deal remains under discussion rather than completed.
