Manchester City Consider January Move for Chelsea Defender Malo Gusto
Manchester City are reportedly prepared to revive their interest in Chelsea right-back Malo Gusto during the January transfer window, provided the London club lower their asking price. According to TEAMtalk, Pep Guardiola’s side remain keen on signing the France international after failing to reach an agreement with Chelsea during the summer.
Manchester City Could Return for Gusto in January
City were strongly linked with Gusto ahead of the previous transfer window but were unwilling to meet Chelsea’s reported €90 million valuation. The negotiations ultimately failed to produce a deal, leaving Guardiola without an additional right-back before the transfer deadline.
However, Manchester City have continued to monitor the defender and could return to the negotiating table in January if Chelsea become more flexible over their demands.
Any potential move could also be influenced by the ongoing proceedings surrounding Manchester City’s alleged 115 Premier League financial rule breaches. The club are awaiting the outcome of their appeal, and any significant punishment could affect their transfer plans.
Gusto Struggles for Regular Minutes at Chelsea
Gusto played an important role under former Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca, but his situation has reportedly changed following Xabi Alonso’s appointment.
The 23-year-old has struggled to secure regular playing time, featuring for just two minutes across Chelsea’s last four Premier League matches, according to the report.
Pedro Neto has been preferred in a wing-back role this season, while summer signing Marco Palestra has returned to full fitness. Josh Acheampong has also been selected ahead of Gusto at right-back in recent weeks.
Although Gusto is reportedly happy at Stamford Bridge, his position could change if his limited opportunities continue.
Paris Saint-Germain Could Join the Race
Manchester City may not be the only major club interested in the defender. Paris Saint-Germain have reportedly emerged as potential competitors for Gusto’s signature in 2027.
Chelsea were open to selling the Frenchman during the summer, and another approach could materialise if a suitable financial offer arrives.
For now, City’s interest appears to depend on Chelsea lowering their valuation. If the Blues remain firm on their demands, a January transfer could prove difficult to complete.
According to TEAMtalk, Manchester City remain keen to bring Gusto to the Etihad Stadium, but the asking price and the defender’s situation at Chelsea will be crucial factors in determining whether a deal becomes possible.
