Juventus and Roma Tracking Sporting CP Midfielder Issa Doumbia
Sporting CP midfielder Issa Doumbia is attracting interest from Serie A following his impressive performances in the Champions League, with Juventus and Roma reportedly keeping a close eye on the 23-year-old.
The Italian-born midfielder was once again in the spotlight after scoring the decisive goal in Sporting’s victory over Shakhtar Donetsk at Stamford Bridge. The result took the Portuguese side to nine points in the Champions League group stage.
Doumbia’s goal showcased several of his key qualities, including his movement into space, technical ability in tight areas and determination to win loose balls inside the opposition penalty area.
It was his second goal in the competition, following his strike away against Lens on 13 October. On that occasion, he took advantage of a defensive mistake before beating goalkeeper Robin Risser with a clever finish using the outside of his right foot.
Against Shakhtar, Doumbia played a part in a quick attacking combination involving Silas Andersen and Luis Suárez. Although the Colombian striker was denied by Pedro Henrique, the defender failed to clear the danger, allowing Doumbia to make a decisive run and score.
Born in 2003 and originally from Treviglio, Doumbia has quickly established himself as an important figure at Sporting following his arrival from Venezia last summer. His performances in Portugal have now attracted attention from clubs in his native Italy, with Juventus and Roma among the sides reportedly interested.
The midfielder’s growing reputation could make him one to watch in the upcoming transfer windows. Sporting’s contractual position, including a reported release clause that remains in force, could also prove important if interest from Serie A develops into a concrete pursuit.
For now, Doumbia continues to impress on the European stage, with his Champions League performances strengthening his profile ahead of a potentially busy transfer period.
