Manchester United and Bayern Munich Target FC Twente Defender Ruud Nijstad
Manchester United and Bayern Munich are monitoring FC Twente defender Ruud Nijstad as they look to strengthen their defensive options with one of the Netherlands’ emerging young talents.
The 18-year-old centre-back has attracted interest from several major European clubs following his impressive development at Twente, where he has progressed through the academy system and established himself in the first team.
According to Twente-focused outlet Twente Insite, Manchester United and Bayern Munich are among the clubs keeping tabs on the Netherlands U19 international.
Nijstad Establishes Himself at FC Twente
Nijstad made his breakthrough into Twente’s senior side last season, featuring for 1,770 minutes across 24 matches.
He has continued to develop during his first full season in the top flight, recording another 1,485 minutes in 17 appearances so far.
His performances have helped put him on the radar of clubs looking to invest in promising defensive prospects, with Manchester United and Bayern Munich now reportedly among his admirers.
Chelsea and Manchester City Also Showed Interest
Interest in Nijstad is not entirely new. In April, reports linked both Chelsea and Manchester City with a potential move for the young defender.
At the time, Nijstad admitted that the reported attention from those clubs made him happy. He also indicated that his next step would be either to move elsewhere during the summer or commit his future to FC Twente by signing a contract extension.
The second option ultimately materialised. In July, the defender signed a new deal with the Eredivisie club, keeping him under contract until 2029.
Manchester United and Bayern Munich Keep Him on Their Radar
Despite his new contract, Nijstad’s performances continue to attract attention from abroad. Twente Insite reports that Manchester United and Bayern Munich have both included the teenager on their list of potential defensive targets.
For now, there is no indication of a formal offer or advanced negotiations. However, the interest from two of Europe’s biggest clubs underlines the growing reputation of a defender who has already made significant progress at senior level.
With his contract running until 2029, FC Twente are in a strong position regarding his future, although further developments could emerge if interest from the Premier League and Bundesliga continues.
