Kaizer Chiefs Open Contract Talks With Sibongiseni Mthethwa
Kaizer Chiefs have officially opened discussions with Sibongiseni Mthethwa over a new contract as the Soweto giants look to secure the midfielder’s future at Naturena.
The Amakhosi hierarchy have reportedly tabled a one-plus-one-year offer for the 31-year-old, popularly known as The Bull. If an agreement is reached and the additional year option is activated, Mthethwa could remain with the club until June 2028.
The proposed deal reflects the importance Chiefs place on the defensive midfielder, who has become an influential figure since joining from Stellenbosch in September 2023.
Mthethwa Remains Important to Chiefs
Mthethwa has established himself as a key part of the Chiefs midfield thanks to his aggressive approach, physical strength and ability to protect the defence.
His work rate and tactical discipline have made him an important presence in the middle of the park, particularly when the team needs to regain possession and maintain its defensive balance.
The club’s technical team reportedly values his ball-winning ability and experience, qualities considered important as Chiefs prepare for their upcoming domestic commitments.
Chiefs Look to Secure Midfielder’s Future
Keeping Mthethwa would represent an important step towards maintaining stability in the squad. His performances have also kept him in contention for selection with the South African national team, Bafana Bafana.
With contract discussions now underway, Chiefs will hope to reach an agreement that ensures the midfielder remains at Naturena beyond his current deal.
The proposed one-plus-one arrangement could keep The Bull at the club until June 2028, provided both parties agree to the terms and the extension option is activated.
